Amar Kanwar's films are rooted in the Indian subcontinent but their narratives have a contextual relationship to diverse audiences. They connect intimate personal spheres of existence to larger social political processes and trigger tiny emotional, spiritual and intellectual disturbances in the viewer. His films map a journey of exploration that shows both his and our relationship with the politics of power, violence, sexuality and justice. Kanwar's films are complex, contemporary narratives that link legends and ritual objects to new symbols and public events of today.
